Tudera is a northern Spanish village administratively to the municipality ( municipio ) Fariza in the province of Zamora in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon heard.

Tudera lies at an altitude of approx. 750 meters above sea level. d. M. on the river of the same name in the rocky, sometimes swampy landscape of the Arribes del Duero nature park near the border with Portugal . Fariza, the main town in the parish, is about six kilometers to the west; the provincial capital Zamora is about 50 kilometers (driving distance) to the northeast.

economy

Agriculture, especially cattle breeding, traditionally plays the largest role in the economic life of the small mountain community. Income from tourism in the form of renting out holiday homes ( casas rurales ) has increased over the last few decades.

history

Tudera was independent until the middle of the 19th century; then the place was incorporated into Fariza.

Attractions

  • The parish church of the village ( Ermita de Santa Bárbara y Santa Catalina ) has a baroque bell gable ( espadaña ); access is via an unadorned south portal.
  • In the square in front of it stands a simple stone cross on a stepped square base and a round shaft.
  • A bridge known as the 'Roman Bridge' ( puente romano ) because of its precise arch and the use of large stones consists of a central round arch and two lateral openings with flat cap stones. It stands about 100 meters west of the parish church.
  • There is a stone slab walkway each downstream and upstream ; these can withstand even stronger floods with corresponding debris and seldom need to be checked and repaired.
  • The Ermita de San Cosme y San Damián is located on a rocky hill on the outskirts of the village .
