Tumu in Libya ( تومو in Arabic ) is a border crossing in Murzuq municipality on the border with Niger . It is located 310 kilometers south of Al Qatrun , the closest settlement on the way through the Sahara desert towards Madama (Niger).
The oasis village of Tumu consists of a few barracks owned by the Libyan military who control the border. The place is a transit station for many migrants from the Sahel zone , especially from Niger, Nigeria , Mali , Mauritania and Senegal . The border crossing is often closed, which is why it is necessary for travelers coming from Niger to report to Al Qatrun.
