Do Maung Nile

Tun Maung Nil (born September 30, 1931 in Mergui , Tanintharyi , Burma ( Myanmar )) is a Burmese weightlifter .

Career

Tun Maung Nil started lifting weights as a teenager. The sturdy athlete began his international career as a weightlifter at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki at a height of 1.62 meters . He came there with a featherweight three-way performance of 295 kg in 14th place.

In 1954 he won the Asian Games in Manila and then won the bronze medal at the World Featherweight Championships in Vienna with 330 kg in the Olympic three-way battle behind the two Soviet lifters Rafael Tschimischkian and Ivan Udodow . He was the first Burmese weightlifter to win a medal at a world championship.

At the 1955 World Cup in Munich, he was able to repeat this success. There he won a weight class higher, so in the lightweight with 355 kg behind Nikolai Kostylew from the Soviet Union and Said Khalifa Gouda from Egypt again a bronze medal.

Tun Maung Nil also showed a good performance in the lightweight at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956. He brought a total of 352.5 kg to high distance there. However, this performance only reached 8th place in Melbourne .

Tun Maung Nil was not lucky enough to take part in his third Olympic Games, namely in Rome in 1960 . He managed 117.5 kg in a lightweight two-armed push, but then had three unsuccessful attempts in two-armed tearing and no longer started to push with both arms. Ultimately, that's why he ended up in 28th place.
