The Tunghai University (THU; Chinese  東海 大學 , Pinyin Dōnghǎi Dàxué , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Tang-hái-tai-hãk ) is a private university in Taichung , the third largest city in the Republic of China on Taiwan . It was founded in 1955 by Methodist missionaries. The Luce Memorial Chapel by the architect Ieoh Ming Pei , named after the missionary Henry Winters Luce - the father of the publisher Henry Robinson Luce - is located on its campus in western Taichung .
