Tunilla corrugata is a species of plant in the genus Tunilla from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Tunilla corrugata grows low-shrubby to creeping, is densely branched and forms groups. The often upright, light green, spherical to cylindrical shoot segments become narrower at both ends. Terminal sections are often flattened. The segments are up to 3.5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 8 to 12 millimeters. The 6 to 8 needle-like, whitish thorns are bent back and up to 1.2 centimeters long.

The flowers are red or orange-red, the fruits are red.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Tunilla corrugata is common in the Argentine provinces of Catamarca , La Rioja , San Juan and Mendoza at altitudes of 1500 to 2500 meters. It was first described as Opuntia corrugata in 1834 by Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck . In 2000 David Richard Hunt and James Iliff placed them in the genus Tunilla . A synonym is Tunilla microdisca (FACWeber) DRHunt & Iliff .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
