Tunilla soehrensii is a species of plant in the genus Tunilla from the cactus family(Cactaceae). A Spanish common name is "Ayrampo".

description

Tunilla soehrensii grows low with mostly prostrate or creeping shoots that develop roots at the edges of the shoot segments . The flattened, occasionally crescent-shaped, rarely almost cylindrical shoot segments are somewhat humped and up to 6 inches long. There are up to 60 or more closely spaced areoles on them . The 5 to 8 (rarely 2 to 12) needle-like, unequal, spreading thorns arising from them are strong to bristle-like. They are present on almost all areoles. The thorns are up to 7 centimeters long and yellowish to brownish in color.

The yellow, orange, pink or red flowers are up to 5.5 inches long. Your pericarpel is covered with areoles almost to the base, with the upper areoles being bristly. The dark red fruits have a length of up to 2.5 centimeters. In the upper part of the areoles arise some to 2 centimeters long thorns. The lower part of the fruit is not covered with areoles.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Tunilla soehrensii is widespread in southern Peru , Bolivia and northern Chile and Argentina at altitudes of 3200 to 4000 meters. It was first described as Opuntia soehrensii in 1919 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . In 2000 David Richard Hunt and James Iliff placed them in the genus Tunilla .

Synonyms are Tunilla chilensis (F.Ritter) DRHunt & Iliff , Tunilla orurensis (Cárdenas) DRHunt & Iliff and Tunilla tilcarensis (Backeb.) DRHunt & Iliff .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.

The fruits are used to color food. Its use in folk medicine is known from Peru.
