Turbinicarpus alonsoi is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Mexican explorer Alonso Garcia Luna.

description

Turbinicarpus alonsoi grows individually with spherical bodies 6 to 9 centimeters in diameter and a not very pronounced taproot . The flattened, triangular bumps are up to 1.5 inches long and 1.3 inches wide. The resulting 3 to 5 flattened, cardboard-like thorns are gray with a darker tip. They are up to 2 inches long.

The magenta flowers are 2.5 to 3.8 centimeters long and 2 to 3 centimeters in diameter. The reddish to dark purple fruits are 1 centimeter long and reach a diameter of 0.5 centimeters.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Turbinicarpus alonsoi is widespread in the Mexican state of Guanajuato . The first description was in 1996 by Charles Edward Glass (1934-1998) and Salvador Arias Montes .

Turbinicarpus alonsoi is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species . In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is it as " Critically Endangered (CR) , d". H. classified critically endangered.
