Turbinicarpus jauernigii is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Turbinicarpus jauernigii usually grows individually with green, conspicuously overgrown - thus somewhat white flaky appearing - depressed spherical to spherical bodies and has a short, strong beet root. The bodies reach heights of 1 to 2 centimeters and diameters of 2.5 to 5 centimeters. The little pronounced humps are low and rounded. There is usually a single, protruding, straight white central spine with a dark tip and a length of 5 to 8 millimeters.
The dirty light brown flowers are up to 2.5 centimeters long and 1.5 centimeters in diameter. The small greenish fruits dry out when they ripen.
Systematics, distribution and endangerment
Turbinicarpus jauernigii is common in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí . It was first described in 1993 by Gerhart Frank . Synonyms are Turbinicarpus lophophoroides subsp. jauernigii (Gerhart Frank) L.Battaia & Zanov. , Pediocactus lophophoroides var. Jauernigii (Gerhart Frank)and Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus subsp. jauernigii (Gerhart Frank) DRHunt .
Turbinicarpus jauernigii is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species .
