Turbinicarpus ysabelae is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Turbinicarpus ysabelae grows individually with yellowish green, spherical to depressed spherical bodies and has fiber roots. The bodies reach heights of 4 to 16 centimeters and diameters of 7 to 20 centimeters. Their distinct, conical cusps are 3 to 8 millimeters high. There is an upwardly curved central spine with a length of 7 to 20 millimeters, which is greyish white at the base and darker above. The 16 to 20 radiating radial spines are whitish, more or less straight and 2 to 10 millimeters long.

The white flowers are 1 to 1.8 centimeters long and up to 7 centimeters in diameter. The spherical, greenish fruits are hidden in the parting wool and dry out when ripe.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Turbinicarpus ysabelae is common in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas .

The first plants were found in 1931 by Arturo F. Moeller or sent by him to Ysabel Wright in the United States. The supervisor of Ysabel Wright's collection, Kathe G. Schlange, named the plants after Ysabel Wright's first name. It was first described as Thelocactus ysabelae in 1934. Václav John and Jan Říha (* 1947) placed it in 1983 in the genus Turbinicarpus .
