The building Turmschanzenstraße 2 is a Grade II listed building in the Magdeburg district Cracau in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it has been listed as a monument under registration number 094 82870 since October 18, 1994 .

General

The elongated brick building dominating the street is the former car house number 15 of the artillery depot that used to exist here. The car house number 13 also belonged to this artillery depot .

The building is considered a structural remainder of the military use that originally dominated the surrounding area of ​​the so-called Friedrichstadt in the course of the eastern front of the Magdeburg Fortress . It was created in the last phase of the military use of the fortress and is considered to be significant in terms of military and urban history. In connection with this building, the barracks that have been preserved in the neighborhood today, but have been converted, can be seen.

Architecture and history

The building was built between 1880 and 1890. It is a two-story building with a gable roof and crenellated corner crowns. The window and entrance openings are designed with segmental arches. The brick shell construction was typical of the architecture of the barracks at the time.
