Tuvalu National Library and Archives

Tuvalu National Library and Archives (TNLA) is the National Library of Tuvalu . It is located in Funafuti .

Facilities

The TNLA stores the “vital documentation on the cultural, social and political heritage of Tuvalu”, including the other records of the colonial administration of the “Gilbert and Ellice Islands” and the archives the government of Tuvalu.

The archives are considered “comparatively well housed”, but as “threatened by frequent use and by the risk of being washed away in a cyclone- prone region. Damage due to environmental influences and incorrect use occurs even with key archival documents "(endangered ... through frequent and heavy use and ... through risk of being washed away in a cyclone-prone area. Environmental and handling damage is occurring to key customary records). Therefore, the Tuvalu National Archives Preservation Pilot Project (EAP005) and the Tuvalu National Archives major project of 2005 were started by the British Library and the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau of the ANU Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies , Australian National University . The archives were recorded on microfilm and digitally copied.
