Tverai is a miestelis with 558 inhabitants (2011) in the municipality of Rietavas , Lithuania . It is the center of the Tverai County . There is an ambulance , a post office (LT-90015), the Tverai Middle School, a cultural center, a forestry department , a library, a branch of the company AB “ Lytagra ”, the day care center Všį “Tverų dienos centras” and a tourism center.
history
Around 1253, Prince Vykintas died at Tverai Castle after losing the battle for power in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to Mindaugas .
In 1804 a parish school was built. In 1853 there were 35 students. In 1897 the pastor Juozapas Niūniava-Niūnevičius built the Catholic Church with residents .
