Twipsy was the official mascot of the EXPO 2000 world exhibition in Hanover . Twipsy could be bought as a cuddly toy or on T-shirts , coffee mugs , watches and other souvenirs (in addition to those with the EXPO logo) in shops on the EXPO site . In addition, there were special postage stamps with Twipsy and life-size versions that ran around the EXPO site or advertised the world exhibition in other countries.

Appearance

The figure was designed by the Spanish designer Javier Mariscal . His design was selected from 17 proposals by an international jury in 1995.

Twipsy has a teardrop-shaped, colorfully striped body and a crescent-shaped, yellow head with a large, turquoise-colored nose. The area around the eyes, the process on the back of the head and the chin are black. He wears both pointed, high-heeled and round, flat shoes on his short, thin legs. He has a "normal", thin arm and an oversized, orange-colored arm (which should be reminiscent of a wing). The color scheme can vary depending on the version.

Television series

On November 1, 1999, the cartoon series Twipsy started on KI.KA with 26 episodes of 25 minutes each, each episode contains two stories. Seven months before the start of EXPO 2000, children were familiarized with the world exhibition in this way.

In the first episode, 13-year-old Nick gets into the world of cyberspace in an accident . There he meets the colorful and lively e-mail messenger Twipsy. A modified scanner now serves as a transporter into the world of the Internet. The other children, for example Nick's 8-year-old sister Lissie or his friend Albert, also experience many adventures and get to know cyberspace.

The characters are shown with computer graphics when they are in cyberspace , and in conventional cartoon style when they are in the “real world”. In addition, all persons are Twipsy's height and approximately matched to his appearance.
