Tygerberg is a district in the northeast of Cape Town in South Africa and a range of hills in the district.

The district is located around 25 kilometers from the center of Cape Town.

Dutch and German settlers, who populated the Cape region from 1652, named the hill after the streaky and spotted impression that the vegetation created at the time, "Tigerberg", although there were numerous big cats in the region at that time, but no tigers .

In 1996 the six suburbs of Bellville , Durbanville , Goodwood , Parow , Khayelitsha and Mfuleni were combined to form the City of Tygerberg .

Part of the hill is designated as a nature reserve Tygerberg Nature Reserve . In Tygervalley there is a newly furnished housing estate with man-made lakes and several restaurants, based on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, known as the Tygervalley Waterfront . Adjacent is also a large shopping center, the Tygervalley Shopping Center .

The Tygerberg Hospital is located south of the Tygerberg . It is the University Hospital of Stellenbosch University with its own campus , on which clinical-theoretical, diagnostic and training-related facilities are located. There are also several dormitories and a student center with a cafeteria on campus .

Bellville is part of the City of Tygerberg with the campus of the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
