Tykes Water is a watercourse in Hertfordshire , England . It arises from two tributaries of the same name north of Borehamwood . The western tributary arises as an outflow from Aldenham Reservoir ( 51 ° 38 ′ 58 ″  N , 0 ° 18 ′ 52 ″  W ), the eastern tributary arises as an outflow from Aberford Lake ( 51 ° 39 ′ 51 ″  N , 0 ° 16 ′ 45 ″  W ) in Borehamwood. The watercourse and its tributaries flow in a northerly direction. The Tykes Water flows into the River Colne under the name The Brook .
