Tylecodon bodleyae is a plant of the genus Tylecodon in the family of Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae). The specific epithet bodleyae honors the South African plant illustrator Elise Bodley van Wyk (1922–1997).

description

Tylecodon bodleyae grows from a tuberous base with yellow-brown, peeling bark as a dwarf, upright and sparsely branched succulent plant and reaches heights of growth of 10 cm. The ascending shoots are gray-green with dark vertical stripes and articulated at the nodes. Younger shoots are 4 to 5 mm in diameter. The short phyllopodia are trimmed. The obovate to elliptical leaves are green to pale green in color and 8 to 15 mm long and 6 to 14 mm wide. They are wedge-shaped at the base and pointed at the tip and either bald or covered with a few glandular hairs .

The inflorescences form up to 4 cm long thyrsen with 1 to 2 monochasias , which in turn end in 1 to 2 upright single flowers. The flower stalk is 6 to 16 mm long and is hairy glandular to downy. The linearly pointed bracts are 1 to 1.5 mm long and the triangular-lanceolate sepals 3 mm long and 1 mm wide. The glandular-haired corolla forms a yellowish green, funnel-shaped tube and is 11 to 15 mm long. At the base this is 3 mm in diameter and widens to 4 mm towards the throat. The elongated tips have long hairs on the inside, are spread out, then later rolled back and become 5 mm long and 2.5 mm wide. The yellowish green nectar flakes are elongated and upright and have margins and become 1 mm long and 0.5 mm wide.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon bodleyae is widespread in the South African province of North Cape in the Succulent Karoo on steep, quartzitic sandstone rock faces. It was first described in 1992 by Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld.
