Tylecodon hirtifolius is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).
description
Tylecodon hirtifolius grows as a flat and little branched shrub with spreading or creeping shoots, which are erect at their ends. The plants reach heights of 4 to 6 centimeters. On the up to 17 centimeters long shoots sit gray-black, elongated phyllopodia that are 5 to 6 millimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters wide. The flat, green and obovate to lanceolate leaves are 4 to 10 centimeters long and 2.3 to 3.5 centimeters wide. The top of the leaf is concave, the bottom is convex. At the base of the leaf the blade is wedge-shaped and the tip of the leaf is blunt or pointed.
The inflorescence is formed by thyrses up to 75 centimeters high , each with 2 to 3 ascending monochasia and 5 to 10 spread to slightly nodding and yellowish to green individual flowers. The bell-shaped corolla tube is 14 to 18 millimeters long and is covered with glandular hair. The white tips are bent back.
Systematics and distribution
Tylecodon hirtifolius is widespread in South Africa in the province of North Cape in the Succulent Karoo on the Namaqualand Escarpment. It was first described in 1938 as Cotyledon hirtifolia by Winsome Fanny Barker . Helmut Richard Tölken placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .
