Tylecodon rubrovenosus is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon rubrovenosus grows as a sparsely branched and ascending plant and is up to 30 centimeters high. A single main trunk is formed. The gray-green shoots have a diameter of 4 centimeters at the base, one of 2 centimeters further up and sometimes become thicker towards the top. There are short and irregularly shaped phyllopodia on the shoots that can reach a height of 1 centimeter. The gray-brown bark peels off at the base of the shoots. The linear-lanceolate and ascending leaves are heaped at the shoot tips and may have glandular hairs. They are curved inwards, almost round and have a distinct reddish stripe. The leaf blade is slightly furrowed on top and convex on the underside.

inflorescence

The inflorescence consists of up to 20 centimeters, sometimes up to 38 centimeters, high thyrses , which carry three to five spread monochasias on which the individual flowers hang. The sepals are 6 to 7 millimeters long. The tubular corolla is yellowish-green in color and 7 to 15 millimeters long. It is hairy with glandular-downy hair and the tips are spread out or bent back.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon rubrovenosus is widespread in the south of Namibia and in South Africa in the province of Northern Cape in the Succulent Karoo and the Nama Karoo. It was first described in 1932 as Cotyledon rubrovenosa by Kurt Dinter . Helmut Richard Tölken placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .
