Tylecodon scandens is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).
description
Tylecodon scandens grows as a small, climbing plant with a single stem and reaches a height of 16 centimeters. The individual trunk grows from a soft tuber, the flesh of which is reddish pink in color and has a grayish, peeling bark. The green shoots, curved in a zigzag shape, later turn black and reach a diameter of 1.5 millimeters. On the shoots, bent back and trimmed, 5 to 10 millimeter long phyllopodia are formed, which are furrowed on the top and reach 1.5 millimeters in diameter and have the same texture as the shoots. Pressed-spread hairs are formed on the shoots, which later disappear. The dorsiventrally compressed and densely covered with clubbed hair leaves are 6 to 8 millimeters long and reach a diameter of 4 to 6 millimeters. They are furrowed on the top and the blade is narrowly elliptical to traffic ovate.
The inflorescence consists of up to 8 centimeters high thyrses , which carry a single monochasia , on which the 1 to 3 arc-shaped ascending single flowers stand. The flower stalk is up to 3 inches long. The green and egg-shaped corolla, covered with club-like and glandular hair, is up to 10 millimeters long and has a diameter of 4 millimeters at the base. It narrows to 3 millimeters and again has a diameter of 4 millimeters at the throat. The greenish tips are provided with reddish stripes. The yellow and elongated nectar flakes are upright and have a margin and become 1.5 millimeters long and 0.5 millimeters wide.
Systematics and distribution
Tylecodon scandens is widespread in South Africa in the Western Cape Province in the Succulent Karoo . It was first described in 1995 by Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld.
