Tylecodon singularis is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).
description
Tylecodon singularis grows as a very small geophyte from an underground, bulbous base with thickened, spindle-shaped roots. No phyllopodia are formed on the single, bare shoot and it is up to 10 millimeters long and 7 millimeters in diameter. A single circular leaf, rarely up to four in culture, is formed. The concave leaf is 5 to 8 centimeters in diameter, heart-shaped at the base and has a short, runny stem. The underside of the leaf is purple in color and covered with glandular hairs.
The inflorescence consists of upright, spread out and 15 to 35 centimeters high thyrsen with 2 to 4 monochasias , which in turn end in 5 to 10 upright to spread out single flowers. The tubular, pale yellowish green corolla is up to 13 millimeters long and is slightly widened towards the throat. The inside is covered with short hair. The bent back tips are 6 to 7 millimeters long. The yellowish nectar flakes are square shaped and about 1 millimeter long. They are formed with entire margins or with margins.
Systematics and distribution
Tylecodon singularis is widespread in southern Namibia in the succulent Karoo . It was first described in 1970 by Robert Allen Dyer as Cotyledon singularis . Helmut Richard Tölken placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .
