Tylecodon striatus is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon striatus grows with a diameter of 2.5 centimeters from an underground, thickened base with up to 6 centimeters in diameter as a little branched small shrub and becomes up to 18 centimeters, sometimes up to 25 centimeters high. The upright to spreading and often climbing shoots reach 5 to 10 millimeters in diameter. Young shoots have a pale gray-green bark with dark stripes, older shoots have yellowish, peeling bark. The rounded and tapering phyllopodia are 1 to 3 millimeters high. The linear to linearly inverted lanceolate leaves are sometimes almost stalk-round and 3.5 to 10 centimeters long and 3 to 6 millimeters wide. The furrowed or rutted upper side of the leaf is rarely flat. At the pointed to blunt tip there is a little pointed tip. Older leaves wither and remain on the shoots.

The glandular to downy-haired inflorescence consists of elongated and up to 35 centimeters high thyrses with 1 to 5 monochasia . The single flowers stand upright or spread out. The flower stalk is 1 to 1.8 inches long. The tubular and bulging corolla is 12 to 15 millimeters long and is greenish brown in color.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon striatus is distributed in South Africa in the provinces of Northern Cape and Western Cape in the Succulent Karoo . It was first described in 1964 by Paul Clifford Hutchison as Cotyledon striata . Helmut Richard Tölken placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .
