Tyler Henry Koelewyn (born January 13, 1996 in Hanford , California , USA ) is an American reality show personality who appears in the series "Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry" as a " clairvoyant medium ". The series started broadcasting in January 2016 on E! Television Network in the US, and was E! 'S largest unscripted series launch in the last three years, with 3.2 million viewers for the third episode. In November 2016, Henry published his first memoir as a book: Between Two Worlds: Lessons from the other side (Between Two Worlds: Lessons from the Other Side).

Its critics claim that Henry's readings are performed using deceptive cold reading techniques rather than "psychic" powers. They also criticize his television show for targeting people who are grieving and vulnerable and exploiting them for entertainment.

Early life

Henry is from Hanford, California, a small rural town near Fresno.

At the age of ten he is said to have noticed that he had clairvoyant abilities. After giving readings to students and teachers at Hanford's Sierra Pacific High School, where he was completing an accelerated academic program, Henry initially wanted to go to college and later become a nurse in a hospice. However, Henry was soon "discovered". He soon had a celebrity clientele from Hollywood and then a contract for a reality TV show. Henry started his E! To shoot television series. The broadcast of the show began a week after his 20th birthday. Henry reportedly welcomes skepticism towards his work: "I'm happy with people asking questions," he told online magazine Fresno-Bee. Henry is openly gay.

Career

In November 2015, Henry appeared on the popular reality soap Keeping Up with the Kardashians .

The first episode of his show "Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry" was aired on January 24, 2016 on E! first broadcast. After a successful premiere, E! Henry with the production of two more episodes, making a total of 10 episodes in the first season. In March 2016 it was announced that E! had commissioned the production of a second season of the show. His memoirs as a book: "Between Two Worlds" were published in 2016.

Henry gave readings for a number of celebrities on his programs, such as B. Nancy Grace, Alan Thicke, retired NBA player John Salley and actors Monica Potter, Tom Arnold, Amber Rose, Jaleel White, the Kardashians, Carmen Electra, Matt Lauer, Chad Michael Murray, Rick Fox, Meghan Fox, Chrissy Metz, Kristin Cavallari, Bobby Brown, Roselyn Sanchez, Tom Arnold, Erika Jayne and many more. Alan Thicke died a few months after reading on the television show with Henry, which became the subject of many media reports and heated controversy, as Henry allegedly warned Thicke about his weak heart on the show.

In 2016, Henry published his memoir entitled Between Two Worlds: Lessons from the Other Side.

In February 2018, People.com printed an article prior to the third season of Hollywood Medium. The article contained an interview with Henry about his skills, the development of his “powers” and his reading for season 3 with La Toya Jackson, which was still on the air, in which he claimed to have had contact with Michael Jackson .

Alan Thicke dies

On December 13, 2016, celebrity Alan Thicke died at the age of 69 from an aortic dissection. Some months before his death, Thicke was in a reading with Henry for the Hollywood Medium TV show. Among the many topics Henry discussed, concerns about possible heart problems were raised:

"When it comes to a family gene problem, it is possible that there are several men in your family who, at a later age, have a blood pressure problem, but also a heart murmur or an arrhythmia, but I have to go to my heart go, which is related to blood pressure. So, keep that in mind, I have a few people here who share similar things with me and say to keep your own heart in mind. There is one man who is very persistent who has died, he acknowledges that he is dying of a heart problem. His message is don't be stubborn like me ... it could have been treatable if we had known about it. "

After Thicke's death, this part of his reading was used by Henry's fans as evidence that Henry actually predicted Thicke's death. Various news channels reported uncritically about it, some with sensational headlines like "Tyler Henry Eerily Predicts Alan Thicke's Death on Hollywood Medium" ("Tyler Henry predicts the death of Thicke on the TV show Hollywood Medium").

Skeptical activist Susan Gerbic, in a September 15, 2017 article in the Skeptical Inquirer, questioned the claim that this was a successful psychological prediction. In a detailed breakdown of the entire reading, Gerbic reports that immediately after the statements above, Thicke joked, "Thank you, Doctor Henry, I'll take this to heart." Gerbic reported that this made Henry throw his head back and laugh. Gerbic said, "I mention this because it seems so heartless (pun intended) that if Henry REALLY thought that Thicke's heart was going to fail just a few months later, he would have been less reckless and actually very strict," Gerbic continued :

“Remember, Henry used the chance again. The leading cause of death for American men? You guessed it: heart disease ... My purpose in this investigation is to show that there is no evidence of communication with the dead, everything that was said was general or edited. If this is such a great case of predicting someone will get a call from the "other side" to have their heart examined, why was it so vague? Is it Hollywood Medium's fault that Alan Thicke didn't take Henry's prediction seriously? "
