Alan Thicke (born March 1, 1947 in Kirkland Lake , Timiskaming District , Ontario , † December 13, 2016 in Burbank , California ) was a Canadian actor , talk and game show host and songwriter . He is known to the German audience from the series Our loud home .

Life

Alan Thicke was born to Joan, a nurse, and William Jeffrey, a stockbroker. After the divorce, his mother married the doctor Brian Thicke, whose last name was Alan. In 1965, he graduated from Elliot Lake Secondary School and was elected Prom King. He then attended the University of Western Ontario and joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity .

Thicke was married a total of three times: From his first marriage to actress Gloria Loring, which lasted from 1970 to 1983, there were two sons, Brennan and Robin . In 1992, Thicke married the Miss World of 1990, Gina Marie Tolleson . In this marriage, Thicke's third son, Carter William, was born. The connection lasted until 1999. Since 2005 Thicke was married to Tanya Callau. His son Robin is a successful musician and Brennan is a well-known cartoon voice actor.

Thicke was a passionate ice hockey fan and player. In May 2003, he lost five teeth and had to be stitched with 30 stitches after being hit by a flying puck. Actor Michael Vartan also took part in the game. Thicke was not wearing adequate protective clothing.

In 2013, Thicke was honored with a star on Canada's Walk of Fame .

On December 13, 2016, Thicke collapsed while playing ice hockey with his son Carter. He was taken to the Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he died three hours later in surgery . He was 69 years old and left behind his wife and three sons. The death certificate was released on December 21st. Accordingly, the cause of death is a tear in the main artery . At a memorial event, along with 300 other guests, the actors from Our Loud Home ( Joanna Kerns , Tracey Gold , Kirk Cameron , Jeremy Miller and Leonardo DiCaprio ) came together again. Alan Thicke was buried in Santa Barbara Cemetery in Santa Barbara, California .

Career

Alan Thicke was mainly recognized in Germany by portraying the father of the family, Dr. Jason Seaver known in the sitcom Our Loud Home . The series ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC in the USA and was broadcast in Germany on ProSieben from 1993 .

In addition, Thicke appeared in countless television series and films as a guest actor. He played bigger roles, for example, in the films Demolition High , in which he played the father of the main actor Corey Haim , and The Scream of the Dove as Jack West .

Songwriter

Thicke composed many theme songs for American television. Together with his ex-wife Gloria Loring he was u. a. for the tune of the sitcom Any questions Arnold? responsible. He was also the composer of the theme song for the US original of the wheel of fortune .

Moderator

Alan Thicke hosted numerous game and talk shows on Canadian television. The best known were The Alan Thicke Show and Thicke of the Night .
