Tyoni Batsiua

Tyoni Batsiua (born October 14, 1981 in Boe , † February 1, 2004 in Denigomodu ) was a Nauruan weightlifter . She was Oceania Champion several times and won a total of six gold medals at the South Pacific Games ; she also took part in World Championships and the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester .

Career

Batsiua celebrated its first successes in 1997 at the South Pacific Mini Games in Pago Pago . At the 1999 South Pacific Games in Hagåtña ( Guam ) she won three medals; she repeated the same success at the South Pacific Games 2003 in Suva ( Fiji ). Batsiua holds the junior and senior Oceania record in the 58 kilogram class. It was originally intended for participation in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens .

On February 1, 2004, Batsiua died of the consequences of a car accident that she had suffered a few days earlier in the state hospital in Denigomodu. She left a daughter (Oceania, * 2000).
