CL-10 (in brackets partly for subsequent buildings)

The CL-10 series is a multi-purpose ship type from Howaldtswerke in Hamburg and Kiel.

history

The series was built from 1977 to 1980 in twelve units and several versions by the Howaldtswerke Hamburg and Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft shipyards in Kiel, which also designed the ships. All ships of the series were ordered by four German shipping companies , Sloman Neptun and Jonny Wesch received four each, HM Gehrckens and Peter Döhle two each. The generic term for the ship class comes from the abbreviations "CL" for container liner and "10" for the load capacity of 10,000 tons. The CL-10 series was designed as a versatile charter liner with aft superstructures and an aft engine. All cargo holds are forward and have an intermediate deck. They are closed with hydraulic folding hatch covers. Except for the transport of containers and general cargo ships are also used for the transport of bulk cargo and dry bulk cargoes suitable.

There were three variants within the series:

  • The basic variant CL-10 (10,000 tdw) had a load capacity of 10,000 tons as a full-decker and 7200 tons as a free-decker. It had three cargo holds and five mast cranes, two of which were designed as rotating double cranes with a lifting capacity of 18/36 tons. Four-stroke diesel engines of the types MaK 12Mu551AK with 5884 kW and MaK 6Mu601AK with 8000 hp were used.
  • The CL-10 variant (13,000 tdw) had a load capacity of 13,000 tons as a full-decker and 10,000 tons as a free-decker. The construction of the Döhle ships was largely the same as the basic variant and used a different dimensioning of freeboard and draft, the Sloman ships also had a different layout with four holds and seven mast cranes, three of which were rotating double cranes with 18/36 tonnes lifting capacity were executed. The main engine type MaK 8Mu601AK with 7355 kW power was used for all four ships.
  • The ships of the variant CL-10-2L also had a deadweight capacity of 10,000 tons as a full-decker. She had two cargo holds and a centrally arranged cambered heavy lift boom with a capacity of 180 tons. In addition, a Gemini crane with a lifting capacity of 16/32 tons was installed on the port side for each of the two holds. These ships received a main engine of the type MAN K6SZ52 / 105 BL with an output of 7200 hp.
