After the renovation

The series of ships built in the early 1970s as the Porter type by several Dutch shipyards for the Trampko tramp shipping association were also known as zip ships or zip freighters .

history

In 1970 the Trampko member shipping companies Aug. Bolten Wm. Miller's successor , Fisser & van Doornum , Franz Hagen, and Bernhard Schulte ordered a series of ten small multi-purpose general cargo ships from the umbrella organization Holland Shipbuilding & Engineering Association . Each of these 6,200 tdw ships should cost around eight million guilders. The series was intended for joint use via a freighting pool of the tramp shipping association Trampko , only the shipowner Franz Hagen freighted his ship Otto Porr himself. Due to the tight calculation, the Zaanlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij shipyard in Zaandam, which worked with the northern Portuguese shipyard Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo (ENVC) in Viana do Castelo , had to deliver the third ship in the series, the Elisabeth Fisser , File for bankruptcy. The Van der Giessen de Nord shipyard in Alblasserdam then completed the ship.

With their long hatches with box-shaped hold, the ships were particularly known by their nicknames Zip-Ships or Zip-Freighters. At the beginning of the 1990s, the ships at Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo received new central and foredeck sections and were then classified as pure bulk carriers . The series has proven itself very well in operation. Some of the ships have been in service for their original clients for four decades, an extremely rare phenomenon in cargo shipping.

details

The ships of the series are designed as dry bulk carriers with a deckhouse arranged far aft and three cargo holds . The front and aft cargo areas are each shorter than the long middle cargo area. They are mainly used in the transport of bulk goods, piece goods, small project loads or containers. The container capacity was 230 TEU when it was built. Some ships had a movable crane boom with two loading booms, each with a lifting capacity of 6 tons. The holds of the ships are closed with MacGregor hatch covers.

The ships are powered by a six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine of the type MaK 6MU551 AK with an output of 3000 hp. The motor acts on the fixed propeller via a gearbox and enables a speed of around 13 knots. Two auxiliary diesels are also available.
