Tytti Johanna Tuppurainen (born February 18, 1976 in Oulu ) is a Finnish politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). She has been a member of the Finnish Parliament since April 2011 and European Minister in the Rinne and Marin cabinet since June 2019 .

Life

Tytti Tuppurainen graduated from Merikoski High School in her hometown in 1994. She then studied German, sociology and political science at the University of Oulu , completing her degree in 2003 with a Magistra. In 1996 she spent an exchange year at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . After completing her studies, she was a research and development coordinator at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences.

In 2000 she became a member of the Oulu City Council. After the parliamentary elections in 2011 , she became a member of the Finnish Parliament , where she was Deputy Chair of the Main Committee and a member of the Agriculture and Forestry Committee until June 5, 2019 . After the parliamentary elections in 2019 , she became European Minister in the Rinne cabinet on June 6, 2019 . She succeeded Sampo Terho in this office . On July 1, 2019, Finland took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union .

Tuppurainen is the mother of two children, and in 2014 she married Pertti Rauhio, head of parliament.
