The underground station Enkplatz on the Vienna underground line U3 is located in Vienna's 11th district of Simmering . The station, which opened on December 2, 2000, is named after Enkplatz, named in 1894 after the writer Michael Leopold Enk von der Burg .
The platform areas are two storeys deep directly below Simmeringer Hauptstrasse and extend between Grillgasse and Enkplatz. The station has two separate side platforms, which are arranged in parallel tubes and are connected by two aisles. Exits lead to Simmeringer Hauptstraße, Gottschalkgasse and Enkplatz. The stairs to Simmeringer Hauptstrasse and Gottschalkgasse are integrated into the building and both have elevators.
It is possible to change to tram lines 11 and 71 as well as to bus lines 15A, 76A and 76B. The parish church of Neusimmering is located directly at the station .
Design
On the ceiling of the 17 meter high Gottschalkgasse station shaft, the picture Belle Etage by the artists Ilse Haider and Mona Hahn was installed in 2000 . It is a 7 × 4.5 m color photo in a slide light box. The picture shows residents of a community building in Simmering who look down from their balcony at the passengers of the U3. According to the intention of the artists, they can look at a piece of blue sky even in bad weather. However, according to a survey, two thirds of the passengers have never looked up in the station and consequently have not yet discovered the work of art.
In the basement of the station, the installation Mirror Images by the artist Erich Steininger has also been on the upper part of a wall since 2000 . The mural consists of nine panels designed as abstract black and white graphics. The templates were created as a woodcut and then transferred to the wall. There are eight mirrors between the graphics, in which the passengers can be seen when viewed from a favorable angle.
