Vittorio Emanuele is an underground station on Line A of the Rome Metro . It is located below the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II in the Esquilino district .
history
The station was commissioned on February 19, 1980 as part of the first section of Line A. As part of the Artemetro Roma project , the entrances were decorated with mosaics by Nicola Carrino and Giulia Napoleone in the 1990s .
On October 17, 2006, an accident occurred in the station in which a train collided with a train that was already standing on the platform because the vehicle driver had not noticed a stop signal. One passenger died in the process; about 110 other people were injured.
