The U-boat Memorial Möltenort in Heikendorf in Kiel is the German War Graves Commission is part of memorial for the First World War and Second World War fallen soldiers of the German submarine units and for all victims of the submarine war . In addition, the submarine driver of the Bundeswehr who died while on duty is also remembered. The memorial is a landmark of Heikendorf.

Memorial column

The memorial was built on the former Möltenorter Schanze in Heikendorf and inaugurated on June 8, 1930. In 1938 it was rebuilt due to structural damage. It consists of a 15.30 meter high pillar on which a 4.80 meter high eagle (design: Fritz Schmoll ) stands. In the year 2000 extensive rust damage was discovered on the steel inner supporting structure of the eagle, which made a renewal inevitable. Since July 12, 2001, the former eagle with its galvanically copper-plated outer skin made of iron has been replaced by an original bronze cast (made by Noack, Berlin). In March 2012 the eagle was removed because signs of fatigue had been discovered on the supporting structure. The return originally planned after six weeks has been postponed several times; on April 25, 2013 the eagle was reassembled.

The submarine war badge is affixed to the pillar . In its place was a swastika until 1945.
