Class 203 submarine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The submarine class 203 was an unrealized micro-hunting submarine project of the German Navy .

history

The class 203 boats planned in the 1960s were similar to the class 202 submarines , but were to be equipped with a Walter drive . However, they did not offer any on-board recharging option for the 6000 Ah battery of the electric drive, which should enable a ↓ driving range of 400 nm at 3-4 kn. The boat was planned for a 6-man crew. The nominal diving depth of 60 m with a safety factor of 2.5 was envisaged. 2-4 torpedoes were provided as armament. The boat should have a squat periscope , a group listening device and a small mine sonar in the bow as well as a UT and echo sounder system . The project was worked out at the Lübeck engineering office (IKL) under the name IK 19. In the end, the project was discontinued for cost reasons and because of the failures of class 202.
