Sam Richardson (born January 12, 1984 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American actor and voice actor of Ghanaian descent, who made his name for the role of Richard Splett from the HBO series Veep - The Vice President .

life and career

Sam Richardson was born in Detroit , Michigan , where he grew up next to Ghana , his mother's homeland. His maternal grandfather was a local politician in Ghana. Richardson graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy in 2002 and studied theater at Wayne State University .

At the beginning of his career, Richardson was part of a sketch group and performed with her a. a. in Detroit and Chicago . Since 2007 he has also been active as an actor in film and television. He first appeared in a few short films before taking on the recurring role of Colin in the series Das Büro in 2012 . In the same year he also worked on the series Harder Than It Looks . Since 2014 he has appeared as Richard Splett in the HBO series Veep - The Vice President . Through this role he gained greater prominence and was nominated with the rest of the cast for a Screen Actors Guild Award in the category Best Ensemble in 2015 . In addition, Richardson also took on minor roles in films such as We're the Millers , Bad Neighbors 2 and Ghostbusters .

In addition to his appearances in front of the camera, he also lends his voice to characters from animation series, for example in Human Discoveries , Archer , Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and BoJack Horseman .
