US Post Office Johnstown
The US Post Office Johnstown is a listed building of the United States Postal Service in Johnstown, New York , completed in 1913 .
Building history
The building is located in the historic center of Johnstown on the corner of William Street and Church Street (official address: "14 N William St, Johnstown, NY 12095").
The building was commissioned by the Office of the Supervising Architect , an authority that was responsible for the buildings of the US Treasury from 1852 to 1939 . The construction of the building took place in 1913/1913, in 1965/1966 there was an expansion.
The original building complex is a one-story, five-by-seven- bay , sand-lime stone building built in a neoclassical style on a granite base . The main entrance is reached by a few granite steps. The entablature there is held by four Doric columns . The post office is equipped with high semicircular arched windows and a frieze all around.
Monument protection
In 1989, the building was included in the National Register of Historic Places as a monument worth preserving and protecting .
