UCI Classics Series

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under the name UCI Classics Series , the Union Cycliste wanted to introduce the international racing series of important one-day races (“ classics ”) in road cycling .

As part of a reform of the UCI's racing calendar, the one-day races of the UCI WorldTour starting with the 2020 season should be combined in the UCI Classics Series . In contrast to the UCI WorldTour itself, which has not had its own overall ranking since 2019 , an overall winner of the UCI Classics Series should be awarded after each annual racing series .

The Association Internationale des Groupes Cyclistes Professionnels (AIGCP), in which the professional cycling teams are organized, expressed their opposition to this new racing series in September 2019. The series, which was intended as a step to stabilize the fragile economic system of professional cycling, does not bring any progress in this regard. The AIGCP cyclists would ignore the overall standings for the series.

In December 2019, the UCI announced that it would postpone the UCI Classics Series with the aim of introducing the racing series later in agreement with the teams, race organizers and drivers.
