UN-Wasser ( English UN-Water ) is a sub-organization of the United Nations , which was established in 2003 after the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002. The purpose is to support states in achieving the " Millennium Development Goals " in the area of ​​" water " by 2015.

The main topics are drinking water and access to it, water resources , water pollution and water-related disasters worldwide. The organization also aims to improve cooperation between government activities and development organizations.

The chairman is Gilbert F. Houngbo . UN-Water organizes the annual World Water Day and was responsible for the UN Decade for Water 2005–2015 . It also publishes the World Water Report , which is now published annually in March . The offices are mainly located in Geneva .

The 24 members consist of UN institutions, programs and funding instruments that are indirectly involved in water issues. These include the World Health Organization , the Food and Agriculture Organization , the World Meteorological Organization , the UN Environment Program and the UN Development Program .
