The mission of the good the United Nations services in Afghanistan and Pakistan ( English United Nations Good Offices Mission in Afghanistan and Pakistan , UNGOMAP ), a UN peacekeeping mission , based on the UN Resolution 622 of 31 October 1988, took place from May 1988 to March 1990.
Due to the military intervention of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, there were lengthy debates in the Security Council , but none of them came to a result. By a personal intervention by Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar and his Personal Representative came in 1988 finally to Geneva Afghanistan agreement by which Afghanistan and Pakistan were committed to mutual non-interference and voluntary repatriation of refugees and the Soviet Union was asked its troops to withdraw. After the signing of the agreements, the Security Council authorized UNGOMAP to monitor the implementation of the agreement.
