Christian Segur-Cabanac (born November 15, 1948 in Vienna ) is a former officer in the Austrian Armed Forces , most recently head of Section IV in the Federal Ministry for National Defense with the rank of lieutenant general .

Life

Christian Segur-Cabanac was born on November 15, 1948 as the son of the future Austrian general (Count) August Ségur-Cabanac (1922–2011) and Christine Bennier in Vienna and comes from an old, originally French aristocratic family who have been politicians and military personnel for generations represents. After graduating from the Theresian Military Academy , he was deployed from 1968 to 1971 as a lieutenant in Panzerbataillon 33 in Zwölfaxing as a platoon commander, then he was company and battalion commander. From 1979 to 1982 he completed the general staff training and from 1982 he was deployed in the command staff of the army command. From 1993 he was entrusted with the management of the operations department in the Federal Ministry and was therefore responsible at the highest strategic military level for the management of the armed forces in operations at home and abroad, including the preparation and follow-up of operations. From 1999 to 2001 Segur-Cabanac was also deputy head of the General Staff Group B.

Since the end of 2008 he was head of Section IV (Operations) in the Ministry, at the same time he was promoted to Lieutenant General. On July 2, 2013, he was replaced by Lieutenant General Karl Schmidseder and retired.

Lieutenant General Segur-Cabanac is married and has four children. One son, ObstdG Philipp Segur-Cabanac, is in command of the Jagdkommando . Christian Segur-Cabanac is a committed Catholic, Knight of Honor and Knight of Devotion of the Sovereign Order of Malta and has been a parish council member in his residential parish for twenty years. His brother is the General Staff Officer Brigadier René Segur-Cabanac .
