Karl Schmidseder

Karl Schmidseder (born July 25, 1964 in Ried im Innkreis ) is an Austrian officer , most recently lieutenant general in the army . In January 2016 he became Head of the Cabinet of the Federal Minister ( Cabinet Head ) in the Federal Ministry of Defense and Sport .

Life

After high school graduation and one-year volunteer training as well as officer training at the Theresian Military Academy , he was deployed in various command functions in Freistadt and Linz-Ebelsberg, before completing general staff training at the National Defense Academy from 1991 to 1994.

Schmidseder held various functions in the Vienna Military Command , in the Federal Ministry for National Defense and Sport and was Chief of Staff in the Command for International Operations in Götzendorf. He was deployed on the security mission in 1991 on the border with the former Yugoslavia as well as in Albania, Kosovo and Afghanistan and also completed international training courses.

From 2008 he was military commander of Vienna and since August 1, 2011 he has acted as chief of staff to Federal Minister Norbert Darabos . The main focus of his activities was the implementation of the army reform. He made some public statements about the volunteer army positively.

Minister Gerald Klug appointed him to succeed Christian Segur-Cabanac on July 3, 2013 as head of Section IV (Operations) in the Federal Ministry for National Defense and Sport and promoted him to lieutenant general.

Defense Minister Hans Peter Doskozil appointed Schmidseder as head of cabinet in January 2016. In September 2016 it was announced that Alexandra Schrefler-König would succeed him in this role. Schmidseder should devote himself to the implementation of the 2016 army reform.

Others

Schmidseder is married and has a daughter. He studied political science, where he also received his doctorate.
