UNIVAC 1100/2200

The UNIVAC 1100/2200 series is a 36-bit computer system originally manufactured by Sperry . Today Unisys takes over the support of the systems. The UNIVAC - mainframe series was continued as ClearPath IX and to this day as ClearPath Dorado.

  • The UNIVAC 1100 series was produced from 1962 to 1982.
  • The Sperry 2200 series was produced from 1982 to 1985.
  • The Unisys 2200 series was continued until 1997.
  • The Unisys Clearpath series continues to this day.

Data format

  • Fixed-point number , integer, or fraction
    • Whole machine word - 36 bit
    • Half machine word - two 18 bit fields per word
    • Third word - three 12 bit fields per word
    • Quarter word - four 9 bit fields per word
    • Sixth word - six 6 bit fields per word
  • Floating point number
    • Single precision - 36 bits: 1 bit sign, 8 bit exponent, 27 bit mantissa
    • Double precision - 72 bits: 1 bit sign, 11 bit exponent, 60 bit mantissa
  • Alphanumeric
