UPB-MyTeam FC was a club from Selangor , Malaysia that played in the country's highest league, the Malaysia Super League .
The club played its home games at the MBPJ Stadium. Founded in 2006, the club's greatest success is promotion to the first division in 2006.
history
The TV channel TV3 started a reality TV series called MyTeam in 2006 . The aim was to put together a team of non-professional players from all over Malaysia. This team should end up playing against the national team of Malaysia. On the way there, television accompanied the team from the trial training to the big game. The team was coached by Shebby Singh, a former professional footballer.
The game against the national team on May 28, 2006 was lost 2-1. The show had considerable success in Malaysia and the team received an invitation to participate in the Malaysia Premier League (2nd division) 2006/07.
In order to provide the team with a professional basis and to be competitive for the second division, the two producers of the series took over the Perak UPB FC club.
Perak UPB FC was a suffering football club sponsored by the United Plantations Board Malaysia. The management of Perak UPB insisted that their club name be reflected in the new club. Which ultimately led to the current name of the club, UPB-MyTeam Football Club. The two producers also became the club's presidents at the same time, and Croatian Bojan Hodak was hired as head coach.
Surprisingly, the club immediately succeeded in being promoted to the Malaysia Super League, which they finished in 11th place at the end of the 2007/08 season.
