The URO VAMTAC ( V ehículo de A lta M ovilidad Tác tico ; German  " Tactical vehicle with high mobility " ) is an off-road (4x4), lightly armored military vehicle from the Spanish manufacturer UROVESA . More than 2000 of these vehicles, similar to the American HMMWV, are used by the Spanish Army and in other countries.

history

The URO VAMTAC has been in series production since 1998. It was planned in two versions: T3 (later referred to as I3) and T5 (later S3). In the first delivery period up to 2005, 1200 vehicles were delivered to the Spanish army. 60% of them were from the later version S3 (six-cylinder, 138 kW), the rest I3 (four-cylinder, 122 kW). In a second step up to 2009, 900 more vehicles, all of the type S3, were delivered. Around 25% of the vehicles from the first delivery period have now been retrofitted with reinforced armor.

properties

The URO VAMTAC has all-wheel drive. The S3 version is powered by an M16 monoblock turbodiesel (in- line six-cylinder , 3.2 l displacement, 135 kW) from Steyr Motors ; in the case of the I3 vehicles, it is a four-cylinder with 85 kW

The VAMTAC is available in several versions; in principle, they are command vehicles , pickups or cab chassis .
