The USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) is a Littoral Combat Ship of the United States Navy and belongs Freedom Class of. It is named after the city of Fort Worth , Texas .

history

LCS-3 was commissioned on March 23, 2009. The construction contract for a ship with this identification was awarded once in 2006, but was canceled at the beginning of 2007 after cost overruns. The second contract was carried out, Marinette Marine laid down the ship in July 2009. The ship was christened and launched on December 4, 2010, godmother was Kay Granger , Republican MP in the United States House of Representatives from Texas. The USS Fort Worth was commissioned on the flyover from its shipyard on the Great Lakes to its home port of San Diego in Galveston, Texas in September 2012 .

In the winter of 2013/2014, the mission module for surface warfare was field tested in the North Pacific off California. The ship was relocated to the western Pacific for its first deployment of 16 months and reached the port of Singapore on December 29, 2014 .
