The water polo section has played in the Bundesliga, the top Austrian league, since 1993 and is one of the most successful in the state of Salzburg. history
The club's water polo department, Paris Lodron Salzburg Wasserball , PL Salzburg for short , was founded on April 27, 1988 and joined the Salzburg University Sports Institute as the "Water polo" section in order to be able to use the training facilities in the Rif sports center near Hallein. The club is the successor club of what was then SC Delphin Salzburg .
The fact that the swimming pool in the university sports center could not be used for three years immediately after the "water polo start" due to major construction defects and that it had to be renovated for 2.75 million euros has set the club back sportingly. Afterwards there was only the possibility to keep the sport going in the relatively small - but conveniently located - "Paracelsus" indoor pool in the city of Salzburg with 2 × 45 minutes of training time per week (Tuesday and Thursday).
In April 1991, the association was assigned three training units of 1.5 hours each in the University Sports Center Hallein-Rif. The disadvantage was the loss of all the young people from the city, as Rif is outside and does not have ideal transport connections. The offspring for water polo was discovered and found through more or less elaborate direct mail in the vicinity.
After the turn of the millennium, Paris Lodron Salzburg came to its peak. In the two seasons 2001/02 and 2002/03 the club was able to win the championship title in the Austrian Bundesliga. After PL Salzburg had to accept a few departures from service providers, the restructuring began. Many projects to promote the talent of young players were launched, the focus was placed on the youth championships.
From the 2010/11 season Paris Lodron Salzburg found its way back to old strength under the coach of the time, Mike Fasching. After the 2011/12 season, he left the club for ASV Vienna. Christian Stickler was his successor. Since it was re-established in 1988, he has always been in the water as a player for the Salzburg team and from that point on has been influencing the players from the edge of the pool.
In the two following seasons, the runner-up title (2012/13) and then third place in the championship (2013/14) could be achieved again.
The 2014/15 season would be a memorable one for Paris Lodron's team. In an excellent preliminary round, they won nine games in ten games and were therefore in first place in the table. The semi-final was played against IW Vienna, in which Salzburg prevailed. The opponents in the second semifinals were series champions and title favorites WBC Tirol and WBV Graz. After a 13:11 in the Tyrolean first leg, the Styrians were able to win the two other games with 11:10 and thus qualify for the final for the 2014/15 championship against Salzburg.
The first game between Salzburg and Graz took place in Styria in Bad Eggenberg "Auster". In the third quarter, when the score was 8:10 for PL Salzburg, the game was stopped because a player from Graz physically attacked the referee.

history
The volleyball club Paris Lodron Salzburg was founded in 1970 as a club of the University of Salzburg under Albert Morocutti, Heimo Meiche and Karl Wiesner, from the 1972/73 season he played championships, in 1973/74 he was promoted to the national league. In the following years the volleyball club played in the regional and national leagues.
In 1989 the club founded a syndicate with ASV Salzburg that made it into the Bundesliga. The club was Austrian runner-up eight times between 1992 and 2000 and won the Austrian volleyball cup in 1992. In 1995 it was possible to defeat the then rival Donaukraft Wien both in the Volleycup and in the championship and to get the double. In 1995/96 Paris Lodron was represented in the CEV Volleyball Champions League and in the Interliga. The many legionnaires, the many international appearances and the many club trips brought the club to its financial limits because there was a lack of sponsors.
In 2001, when the club played under the name Uniqua Salzburg , Salzburg moved into the quarter-finals of the Top Team Cup. After this season, the club's founders Albert Morocutti, Heimo Meich and Karl Wieser retired. In the 2002/03 season Quadriga was won as a sponsor, but the sporting success failed to materialize. As of 2004, the Salzburg volleyball players could no longer find a main sponsor and were able to prevent a Bundesliga relegation as Volley Salzburg . The club was accepted as a section in the police sports club Schwarz Weiß Salzburg and played as PSV Volley Salzburg . In 2006 the police sports section and the women's volleyball club VBG Salzburg merged. The volleyball community (VBG) is the successor club of UVC Wüstenrot Salzburg, which was Austrian champion in 1993 and cup winner in 1988 and 1991. The club was now called Police Sport Volleyball Community (VBG) Salzburg , PSvBG Salzburg for short .
