uShaka Marine World is an amusement park in Durban in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . The park consists of six areas: Sea World , Wet 'n Wild , uShaka Beach, and Village Walk are the original ones; new are Dangerous Creatures and Rayz Kids World . The park is located on a strip of land between the harbor and the beach. It was built in the first phase of the redesign of Durban Point as the city's new tourist center.
Sea World
uShakas Sea World is one of the largest aquariums in the world. In 32 pools and 17,500 cubic meters of water, very different animal species are exhibited, from small seahorses to sharks and dolphins. The entrance area of the aquarium was modeled on a shipwreck, in which, in addition to some exhibition pools, there are also several restaurants and cafés. A notable restaurant is The Cargo Hold (German for " The Cargo Space"). A whole wall there consists of an aquarium in which sharks live.
The dolphinarium has 1200 seats, seal shows can be seen by 350 visitors at the same time.
The most extraordinary fish species in uShaka Sea World include:
- Sand tiger sharks
- Dark giant grouper ( Epinephelus lanceolatus )
- Big fiddle rays
- Hammerheads
- Hagfish
Various species of reptiles , amphibians and spiders can also be seen. Some of these animals are poisonous.
For a short time uShaka also housed a manta ray , which was however passed on to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.
Other attractions belong to the Island Activities (" Island Activities "). There is a snorkeling pool there. You can dive with sharks protected by a cage and use special equipment to walk into a basin modeled on the seabed.
Wet 'n Wild
uShaka Wet 'n Wild is an adventure pool that offers slides and rides . The attractions offer a lot of scope, from a leisurely river trip through the shipwreck and past some aquariums to very steep slides. In uShaka the highest waterslide in Africa is. There is a large green area around the pools to relax in, as well as restaurants and souvenir shops.
Others
- The uShaka Beach is a beach on which the visitors have directly from the amusement park of access. A long pier leads into the sea.
- The Village Walk is a circular route through an Africa-themed area with restaurants, cafes and other shops.
