Uchte-Tanger-Elbe is a region founded according to the Leader approach as a voluntary association of cities and municipalities in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The Leader region includes the cities of Stendal and Tangermünde as well as the municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community . It is named after the rivers Uchte , Tanger and Elbe , which cross the area.

The development concept of the Leader region with the title "Strengthen retention factors - initiate regional value creation through cooperation" was recognized by the state government of Saxony-Anhalt in 2008. The following fields of action are named:

  1. Adaptation of rural areas to demographic change and strengthening of the quality of life
  2. River basin management : Linking flood protection and water management measures with nature conservation, tourism, environmental education and sustainable agricultural and forestry measures

The Local Action Group (LAG), which is made up of actors from the public administration as well as economic and social partners, is responsible for implementing the development concept. She is supported in this by a leader management. The LAG decides on the Leader projects in an annual regional competition.

As part of the project funding, the focus of activities is on tourism , the diversification of farms and the strengthening of retention factors in rural areas. Concrete projects for the preservation of culturally and historically valuable building fabric, for the expansion of holiday apartments on the Elbe Cycle Path and the Altmark circuit, as well as for the revitalization of the area have already been implemented.
