Udemy ( case word from you + academy) is an American online learning platform that was founded in May 2010. As of January 2020, it has over 50 million students and 57,000 teachers from more than 190 countries, approximately 2/3 of whom live outside the United States , and courses are offered in more than 65 languages. There are more than 150,000 courses on a variety of topics on Udemy and there were more than 300 million enrollments as of 2020.

Participants attend the courses mainly to improve their job-related skills. Udemy is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Denver , Dublin , Ankara , Sao Paulo and Gurgaon .

history

In 2007, Udemy founder Eren Bali developed virtual class software while living in Turkey. He saw the potential to expand his development as a platform for everyone and moved to Silicon Valley , where he founded his own company two years later . In spring 2010 Bali, Oktay Caglar and Gagan Biyani launched the site online. In 2014, Eren Bali was named one of the "30 under 30" by Forbes . Gregg Coccari has headed the company as CEO since February 5, 2019 .

Udemy is a platform that allows lecturers to publish online courses on their preferred subject areas, especially in video format. Powerpoint presentations, PDFs, audio files or zip files can also be uploaded. Course participants and lecturers can use "Questions and Answers", "Messages" and emails to exchange information .

There are both paid and free courses on Udemy. In 2015, the top 10 instructors on Udemy generated more than $ 17 million in total revenue.

In April 2013, the first was iOS - App released by Udemy, there is also an Android version of it. On January 11, 2020, the Udemy mobile app became the top-selling Android app in India .

Udemy is available outside of the traditional education system as part of the growing MOOC scene and is known for the variety of courses it offers.
