Udo I. from the Wetterau

Udo I. von der Wetterau (* around 900, † 949 ) from the Konradin family was Count of Wetterau and Duke in Alsace . He was a son of Duke Gebhard II of Lorraine , his brother was Duke Hermann I of Swabia .

In the Battle of Andernach on October 2, there were 939 Udo and his cousin Konrad Kurzbold , Count in Niederlahngau which the two in the revolt against the king and later Emperor I. Otto located Dukes Eberhard of Franconia and Giselbert of Lorraine defeated. Although both were Konradiner and Eberhard's cousins, they were on Otto's side. They followed the marauding rebels with a small force, but did not attack until the majority of the enemy had crossed the Rhine, but the two leaders had not yet. Eberhard fell in the fight, and Giselbert drowned in the Rhine while trying to escape to the other side. According to Thietmar von Merseburg , Udo is said to have killed Eberhard himself. The uprising against Otto I collapsed.

Udo inherited the allodies of his cousin Eberhard, but not his ducal status . King Otto also thanked him for his loyalty by giving Udo permission to share his fiefs and counties among his sons as if they were hereditary property . In 949 Udo also inherited his cousin Konrad Kurzbold.
