Udo Oberem

Udo Oberem (born December 11, 1923 in Bocholt ; † November 24, 1986 in Bonn ) was a German ethnologist .

Life

He studied ethnology , prehistory, history, comparative religious studies and geography in Bonn and Cologne . In 1950 he also accepted a student assistant at the seminar for ethnology in Bonn. Hermann Trimborn was one of his teachers.

Oberem graduated in 1951 and went to Madrid to study Latin American history . Between 1954 and 1956 he carried out on-site research in Ecuador . After his return to Germany in 1957, Oberem accepted an assistant position at the Institute for Ancient American Studies and Ethnology in Bonn and began lecturing.

Oberem headed an archaeological research project in 1964/65 and founded the publication series Bonn American Studies in 1971 . A year later he took over a professorship for ethnology at the University of Bonn .
