Ugo Cassina
Ugo Cassina (born April 1, 1897 in Polesine Parmense , † October 5, 1964 in Milan ) was an Italian mathematician and mathematician and close collaborator of Giuseppe Peano .
Cassina, interrupted from military service in World War I, studied mathematics with Giuseppe Peano at the University of Turin , graduating in 1921. Afterwards he was assistant to Tommaso Boggio and Peano and from 1923 headed the School of Algebraic Analysis at the University of Turin. In 1925 he became a professor at the Naval Academy in Livorno and after his habilitation in algebra and analytical geometry, he became a professor at the University of Milan , where he also taught the history of mathematics. In 1941 he became a professor at the Military Academy in Caserta and in 1948 at the University of Pavia . In 1951 he was again a professor at the University of Milan.
He was a lifelong admirer and loyal student of Peano, even when he tried to enforce his interlingua. He was active in the Academia pro Interlingua and published the magazine Schola et Vita , founded in 1926 . In 1956 he was entrusted by the Italian Mathematical Society with the publication of Peano's works (Peano, Opere scelte, 3 volumes 1957 to 1959). He also published an annotated facsimile edition of Peano's Formio matematico from 1908.
He was a member of the International Academy of the History of Science .
