Ugo d'Alessio (actually Pasquale D'Alessio ; born August 26, 1909 in Naples ; † February 16, 1979 there ) was an Italian actor .

Life

D'Alessio came from a family of artists. He made his stage debut at the age of 8 under the direction of his uncle. He played with Nino Taranto and at the Teatro Ambra Jovinelli . In 1927 began a five-year collaboration with Salvatore Cafiero / Eugenio Fumo , soon followed by the first pieces with Eduardo De Filippo , with whom he remained lifelong. From the 1930s D'Alessio was an integral part of the theater scene in his hometown, belonged to numerous ensembles (including that of Raffaele Viviani ) and was again under contract with De Filippo from the 1953/1954 season, with whom he played well-known comedies in the middle of the decade of dialect theater such as Miseria e nobiltà , Pallummella zompa e vola , Mia famiglia or Bene mio e core mio . A remarkable tour through the Soviet Union , Poland , Austria and other countries also took place during this period. Later television recordings of plays such as Natale in casa Capiello , Le voci di dentro (both 1962) and Il sindaco del rione Sanità (1964) were made. D'Alessio played the typical Neapolitan in the true sense of the word: authentic, spontaneous, impulsive, slightly hypocritical. His roles were those of the notary or little lawyer who accepts all orders, the courteous servant, the scheming property manager, the petty criminal or the gossip next door, the loyal sexton and the uncle on duty; He approached all of these tasks with precision and love for the characters, as the critics and viewers attested.

From 1947 onwards, the film offered D'Alessio regular, but not excessive, tasks of a similar nature to those of his stage roles. Here, too, never going beyond supporting roles with unmistakable irony and some wisdom, the best roles were offered to him late, for example in the television film Le avventure di Pinocchio as “Master Cherry” (1972) and in Pane e cioccolata (1974) as an old emigrant.

In 1967 D'Alessio published a volume of poetry in Neapolitan , Jamm ca mo 's'aiza .
